Whitby Abbey! I've been there! Whitby is a beautiful town. An ancestor of mine was from Whitby--hence my last name.

The abbey is amazing to see, and you've captured it perfectly here. It's spooky enough on its own, but with those dark clouds in the background, it looks like something right out of Dracula. (...Which it actually is. A good portion of Bram Stoker's famous novel took place in Whitby, and the abbey received at least a few mentions, as did the creepy medieval graveyard nearby.)

The one thing I'd change about this photo is that blurry something-or-other in the foreground. If I were you, I'd have raised my tripod a bit higher or scooted the whole thing a few inches forward. It's not a big deal, though; anyone who uses the image can just crop it out.

All in all, great shot! Thanks for perfectly capturing this magnificent landmark, and for making me feel all nostalgic.

The thing in the front is the wall and we never use a tripod...well, very rarely and if you're interested in the supernatural bits you need to check no.'s 7269 and 7271 in the bottom right ;) just a little spooky ;)

Okay, I just looked at those two images, and I must say: Holy crap, what is that thing?! Did you stage that? Was there someone in there goofing off? Or is that creey hand thing legitimately unexplainable? SCARY.

It was around 11ish in the morning, and I am doubtful if anyone would have been able to climb so high without being noticed but looking at the image myself I tried to work out the length of that forearm "thing" working on a lower estimate of 5 inches per stone, it is at the very least 25 inches long, around 70cm.
Secondly the place is owned by English Heritage, you could easily check if there was anyone monkeying around but if I wanted to make something strange appear at Whitby Abbey, it would not have been an animal like hand... maybe a Nosferatu like face, and it would be all over the papers by now. I don't particularly hold with that kind of stuff and definitely don't crave that kind of attention even though the thought of a few quid for a dodgy picture would be nice. I'm thinking it would probably cost more to set it all up!
I'm not sure whether it is unexplainable or needs an experts eye, but to my own, and they are admittedly not at their best, these two images make my skin crawl somewhat!
Thanks for taking a look :D
